Power & Vinyasa

Power & Vinyasa

Four different classes sit in this group and they are not interchangeable. Power Yoga is the hardest. Ashtanga Inspired follows a fixed sequence. Vinyasa Flow and Hot Happy Hour are continuous flows at a lighter pitch. If you are choosing your first strong class, start with Hot Happy Hour or Vinyasa Flow.

Who it is for. Ashtanga Inspired, Vinyasa Flow and Hot Happy Hour are written for all levels. Power Yoga is the exception: WellnessLiving's own description says it is hard work and not for everyone.

A strong standing sequence in the heated studio

Plain english

What the words actually mean

You do not need to know any of this to walk in. It is here so the schedule reads like a timetable instead of a foreign language.

Vinyasa

Vinyasa means the flowing movement between postures, with each change linked to a breath. A vinyasa class is a continuous sequence rather than a series of separate holds.

Ashtanga

Ashtanga is a dynamic, athletic form of hatha yoga made up of six series, with a fixed order of postures. It is rooted in vinyasa and focuses on energy and breath.

Asana

Asana is simply the word for a yoga posture. You will see it used interchangeably with pose.

7 classes a week

The classes in Power & Vinyasa

The faster end of the week. Built for strength, stamina and a proper sweat.

Vinyasa Flow

2 a week

A continuous flow of postures linked to the breath, twice a week, in the studio's usual 95 to 102 degrees.

Power Yoga

2 a week · hardest

Built for muscle strength and cardiovascular endurance. The poses are challenging and you move from one to the next quickly, in a fast-paced, high intensity environment. Worth knowing before you book: power yoga is hard work and is not for everyone.

Ashtanga Inspired

2 a week · all levels

Designed for all levels of experience. Ashtanga is a dynamic, athletic form of hatha yoga with a fixed order of postures, rooted in vinyasa, focused on energy and breath. Physical, but it also promotes mental clarity. Moves at a faster pace than the gentle classes.

Hot Happy Hour Vinyasa

1 a week · all levels

A dynamic flow with a fun, upbeat atmosphere, designed to improve flexibility, strength and balance through creative sequencing and breathwork. Whether you are new to yoga or experienced, it is a space to unwind and let go of the day's tension.

Before you come

The heat, and what to bring

The room runs between 95 and 102 degrees and classes are 50 to 60 minutes. Doors open 20 minutes before, and the studio asks you to arrive 10 minutes early so your body can adjust to the heat. Classes start on time and the doors lock at the start, so there is no late admittance.

The room

Far infrared heat, between 95 and 102 degrees. It warms you rather than the air, so it feels radiant instead of stifling.
